INTEREST OR OBSESSION???

Is interest an obsession? If not then at what point will it be one? In today’s post, I will not talk about the definition of obsession stated by dictionaries or something, I just want to express how I feel about having that one interest that people claimed to be an OBSESSION.

If you ask me, I would say that obsession is the point someone gets whenever they took their interest too seriously. They would do something extreme just to showcase their love for that particular thing they like. Most people think that being obsessed is a bad thing. We’ve heard of people stealing just to buy the figurines of their favourite anime shows, or we’ve heard of people being too obsessed with social media that they would become insane if there’s no internet connection for a mere 3 seconds. Even crimes like stalking comes from the act of obsession towards a person. Well even if those cases still existed due to obsession, I beg to differ! Not all type of obsession is harmful. Some are just mediums to be more open about oneself. So today I would like to justify all types of harmless obsession which not necessarily a bad thing. And given the opportunity, I would like to justify MY obsession as people refuse to believe that it was a good thing for me.

Previously, I mentioned harmless obsession, so what would be considered as one? There are tons of them, but to cut things short, I would mention something everyone is familiar with. One of the example is reading. Now hold on a second. I know a lot of you must say something like “who on earth would like reading?”, well believe me, quite few of them. I even had one friend whose hobby is to read the dictionaries. What can they do about it? Call them anything, bookworm or nerd, they will do whatever they like however they want it. Now, reading is very positive type of obsession. They will be able to gain knowledge and whatsoever from their reading. However, nothing in this world has no cons. Reading too much would strain your eyesight as you tend to focus too much on the reading material, or you would become an introvert because you’re obsessed with figuring things out via reading, hence the lack of social skills and experience. However, it is without a doubt, a beneficial one.

Now moving on to my obsession that I briefly mentioned above. I would say that anime interested me. OK, maybe a little bit too much… so anime is a term used to describe the Japanese animation which comes in many different types of genres such as Shounen, Shoujo, Seinen, Jousei, and etc. But many people insisted that I was being too obsessed with it. Sure, I kinda had to admit that. However, I don’t think that it is utterly useless to me. How many people had actually seen the anime before judging them to be too “influencing” or non-beneficial? Even if there are some, then you are NOT trying to see the good side of it. Believe it or not, every genres of anime teaches us many different kind of lessons that can only be noticed if you payed enough attention. For example, One Punch Man taught us to just be ourselves and believe in what we can do even if the whole world is turning against us. Other typical shounen anime like Naruto, Fairytail, One Piece, Black Clover and Boku no Hero Academia taught us the meaning of friendship and to never give up. There are even a few anime which gives away some cooking tips like Shokugeki no Souma. Still, people think that being obsessed with them is just a waste of time. Anime can bring benefits and harm, it is only the matter of choosing the right one to watch and trying to extract the moral values as we watch it. I see no harm in that.

All that I want to say is that people can have any kind of obsession they want as long as it is harmless to everyone around them. Obsession is a double-edged sword. Depending on how you interpret it, it will either give you the biggest advantage of your whole life, or it can pull you down due to the disadvantages. Remember, choose your obsession WISELY. If you really love what you’re doing make sure that you will be able to prove your point on why you love it so much and what is the benefit that you can gain from it. If you can justify your opinion, people will not be able to argue with you.

YOUR INTEREST, YOUR CHOICE,
OBSESSION DON’T NECESSARILY MEANS BAD THING.

For more information about those anime genres mentioned above.

Will be writing more next week.
